Your Child's Learning Style and more...

Tools to determine your child's learning styles and more.....

The image above comes from link #3.
  1. Learning Styles in Young Children – This article will help you to diagnose your preschooler’s learning style.
  2. Teaching Style and Learning Style – These quizzes allow you to determine your individual teaching and learning styles.
  3. Multiple Intelligences Test – This is like a magazine quiz. You answer 40 questions, and it tells you where your strengths are. This would be great for older kids to do for themselves.
  4. Myers-Briggs Personality Test – This is the old standard psychological personality test that you might remember from your own adolescence. You remember, INFP and ESTJ and so on? You can find detailed explanations of each of the 16 types here.
  5. Personality Type and Learning Style – I loved this article because it’s written in plain English, specifically for homeschoolers. It talks about how to teach each type of personality (introvert and extrovert, sensing and intuitive, thinking and feeling, judging and perceiving).
  6. Determining Myers-Briggs Score Without a Test – This is a really good article that will help you to determine a Myers-Briggs score for your young child who is too little for taking a test herself.

Daniel Goleman: The Emotional Atmosphere of a Classroom Matters

Daniel Goleman starts out saying... "If I could change one thing in education, it would be making explicit the now implicit understanding that the emotional atmosphere of the classroom matters. It's not irrelevant; in fact, it's essential to learning. And the reason it's essential to learning, from the scientific point of view, is that the emotional centers of the brain actually can take over the centers for learning, and so our attention goes from what the teacher is saying to that thing that's upsetting us, and the failure to understand this, I think, handicaps education as a system. So, if we were to make explicit the fact that "yes" it matters that students feel safe; it matters that students feel calm; it matters that they're attentive. And they won't be attentive unless they're calm and now that we're ready to learn, we can go ahead."

The Case for Restoring and Reusing Older School Buildings

The location and design of public schools are among the most far-reaching decisions any Pennsylvania community makes. School buildings affect the quality of education, and they play a critical role in a community’s development and quality of life.
School construction and renovation is a partnership between the state and local communities, with local school districts leading the decision process about school facilities. Through the Department of Education’s PlanCon process, the Commonwealth provides formula-based financial reimbursement for both new school construction and renovation of existing schools. This process was revamped under Governor Rendell’s leadership, and as a result, local districts received their first boost in reimbursement rates in nearly 20 years, and now have incentives to reuse existing school facilities and build “green” and cost-efficient buildings.

Home Schooling in Isreal

Homeschooling In Israel
Most homeschooling families base their actions legally on the Basic Law: Human Dignity and Liberty and on supreme court rulings. Other families ask the Ministry of Education for exemption from the compulsory schooling law (and need to renew the exemption every year).

In many areas in Israel there are regular meetings of homeschoolers for social opportunities, common activities,
and mutual support.
Country-wide connection of the homeschooling community is supported by the Beofen-Tiv'ee ["naturally" in Hebrew] newsletter, conferences, and virtual community at

4th Day Alliance

The 4th Day Alliance
Is a non-profit religious organization dedicated to proclaiming the Glory of God through astronomy. We accomplish this primarily by educating the public on astronomy through star parties, lectures, and seminars, and by distributing magazines, books, tracts, and astronomy articles from a Biblical creationist perspective.
However, both believer and unbeliever alike are easily enraptured by the beauty and the glory of the heavens.
The difference is, we know whose glory it is, and we know who put it there.
